Job Description

The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Community and Family Health welcomes applications for the position of Parent Educator with our Parents as Teachers Program.

Salary Range

$44,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The PAT Parent Educator plays an essential role in supporting families through the Parents as Teachers program, providing individualized guidance, resources, and activities that promote early childhood development and strengthen family engagement. This position recruits and maintains a caseload of families, conducts home visits or virtual sessions, facilitates group connections, and connects participants to community resources. The Parent Educator works closely with the PAT Supervisor, program staff, and local partners to ensure high-quality services and accurate documentation in alignment with PAT model standards. This role is ideal for someone who is community-minded, enjoys building relationships, and is passionate about empowering families to support their children's growth and learning.

  1. Recruit and maintain a caseload of PAT families in accordance with program guidelines.
  2. Provide in-home, virtual, or hybrid visits to deliver PAT curriculum and activities.
  3. Conduct assessments and screenings; review results with families and refer to resources as needed.
  4. Plan and facilitate group connections and family events throughout the year.
  5. Connect families to appropriate community resources and follow up on referrals.
  6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and activities.
  7. Participate in staff meetings, one-on-one supervision, and professional development.
  8. Support program outreach efforts at community events and partner agency activities.
  9. Assist with data collection and entry to measure program progress and impact.
  10. Ensure all reporting and timesheets are completed in compliance with department and grant requirements.

Required Qualifications

  1. Associate's degree in early childhood education, social work, case management, public health, home visiting, or other related field
  2. Six months' relevant experience in early childhood, home visiting, and/or prevention services.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, social work, case management, public health, home visiting, or other related field
  2. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Conditions of Employment

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

  1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
  2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
  3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
  4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
  5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
  6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
