Location: Syracuse, NY

Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,700 per credit hour

Pay Determination:
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:

The School of Art within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach ARI 153 Object Making Workshop, a series of three one-credit hour workshops, during the Spring semester, 2026.

A series of five-week, one-credit introductory art workshop on a topic that varies by section. These workshops are specifically for Freshman in the School of Art Foundations Program. Each of the three 5-wk workshops will introduce a different approach to making artwork with clay. The first section focuses on the potter's wheel, the second on hand-built techniques, and the third on ceramic tiles.

Qualifications:

  • MFA or MFA candidate with experience working with clay, glaze and ceramic firing processes.

Job Specific Qualifications:

  • Expertise in all facets of ceramics: throwing, hand building, tile making, etc.

Responsibilities:

Meet all class times and help students manage projects through construction, drying, firing, and glazing or other surface techniques.

In addition:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
  • You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

Tools/Equipment:

  • Hand tools for ceramics.
