Job Description:
Summer Session I 2026 - BIO 121 General Biology I (3 Credits) and BIO 122 General Biology I Laboratory (1 Credit)
Course description: BIO 121 is a required entry-level course for biology majors and the first of a two-course sequence comprising a survey of major biological concepts ranging from the molecular level to global ecology. Students will explore the nature of science and the diversity of organisms within a framework of major themes including the flow and regulation of energy and information within living systems, and the central and unifying concept of evolution. BIO 122 is the laboratory course associated with BIO 121. Includes inquiry-based exploration and practical application of concepts discussed in BIO 121.
This course meets in-person on the Syracuse University campus. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

Job Specific Qualifications:
- M.S. degree or higher in Biology or related field, with at least one semester of teaching experience as primary instructor for a course.
Responsibilities:
Part-time Instructor duties will include the following:
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the Department Chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your departments policies for part-time instructors.
