Part Time Faculty for French Studies
Job Description
Trinity University is seeking a Part-Time Faculty for the Fall 2025 semester to teach the following courses: Elementary French-FREN 1401-1 and Elementary French-FREN 1401-2. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for a Part-Time Professor of French Studies for one semester (Fall 2025). The ideal candidate will teach two lower division French language beginner courses. The position begins on August 11, 2025, and is outside the tenure track.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing the course syllabus and ensuring that it meets departmental and University standards
- Designing and delivering lectures, discussions, in-class activities, and assignments
- Grading assigned papers, quizzes, and exams
- Assigning early, midterm, and final grades in compliance with University deadlines
- Maintaining office hours as directed by the department chair or program director
- Making student accommodations as determined by the Office of Student Accessibility Services
- Adhering to all instructional policies as published in the Faculty Handbook and the Courses of Study Bulletin
Appointment Details
Primary teaching responsibility will be within the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures in the French Studies section, teaching two beginning level French courses in the undergraduate French-language program.
Qualifications
Education: Required: Masters of Arts (M.A.) or Philosophy Doctorate (Ph.D.) in French or Francophone Language/Literature or a related field. Preferred: Ph.D. or equivalent in French or French Studies.
Experience: Required: At least one year of teaching and pedagogy for language and culture, with the ability to offer rigorous and creative courses at the beginner level. Preferred: An active teaching profile in French Studies or related fields, with interdisciplinary research encouraged (e.g., Francophone culture, literature, diaspora studies, gender and sexuality, media studies, etc.).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The ideal candidate will be fluent in French and English, able to deliver engaging lectures and activities, design rigorous assignments, and commit to the liberal arts mission of Trinity University.
