Part Time Faculty Interest Pool - Eye Technician Program
Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in the Eye Technician Program at the Cascade Campus. The Department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area.
This is NOT an announcement of a specific open position, but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool, from which the department will identify applicants based on course assignment needs during the Academic Year. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full term class assignments.

Instructor Qualifications
- Current credential as a: Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or Medical Doctor with AAO Certification in Ophthalmology;
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology or related field;
- Minimum five (5) years clinical work experience in an ophthalmic practice
For OMT 281 Ophthalmic Imaging
- Current credential as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
- Preferred additional credentials: Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist (ROUB) or Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS).
- Minimum five (5) years clinical work experience in an ophthalmic practice.
Faculty Responsibilities
- Must be able to perform all duties of a certified ophthalmic technician.
- Support students by assessing performance of clinical skills and offering guidance, suggestions encouragement and constructive feedback.
- Follow all Eye Technician Program and college rules and policies including FERPA and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain safety and integrity of the laboratory environment and report any injuries or unsafe behaviors.
- Evaluate and grade student work, laboratory assignments and activities.
- Support faculty by restocking laboratory supplies, performing inventory and providing feedback regarding student performance.
- Promote professionalism by modeling such behaviors inside and outside the classroom or clinical lab setting. Professional conduct includes; punctuality, approachable demeanor, positive attitude and treating faculty and students with dignity and respect.
- Create a supportive environment, constructive, and engaging student learning environment.
- Identify at risk students; provide extra support, guidance, and attention.
- Participate in regularly planned communication with the program director and other faculty members.
- Strong oral and written communication and the ability to work well with others.
Part-time Faculty Compensation at PCC
Newly hired Part-time Faculty at PCC will generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule. Hourly rates are determine based upon the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab). For more information please review the Part-time Faculty Salary Schedule on PCC's Compensation page.
