The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time Instructor - Economics (ECON) at our Bryan Campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Job Summary

To perform the day-to-day operations of the Economics instructional program at the assigned campus.

Principal Accountabilities

Instruction and Classroom Management
  • Maintain access to students through office hours and electronic communication.
  • Prepare, maintain and utilize an accurate course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media and educational resources.
  • Maintain student participation and attendance in class.
  • Conduct classes and final exams punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
Student Success
  • Advise or refer students to available academic support, advising, and counseling services.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students.
Assessment Duties
  • Hold sole responsibility to assess students' performances through a range of formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
Professional Development and Service
  • Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development opportunities and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Actively engage in collegial activities in a professional manner across the department, college, and communities such as departmental meetings, committees, and Blinn College partner collaborations.
Institutional Responsibilities
  • Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Attend college orientations, required institutional meetings, and trainings.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications

Master's degree or higher in Economics or Master's degree or higher with at least 18 graduate hours in economics from an accredited college or university

Minimum Competencies

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
  • Clearly explain core economic concepts and apply them to real-world or business contexts.
  • Deliver instruction aligned with approved course outcomes using established course materials.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Interpret and explain basic economic graphs, tables, and data.
  • Use the institution's learning management system (LMS) and instructional technology as required.
  • Maintain a professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Adhere to institutional policies, academic integrity standards, and course guidelines.
  • Demonstrate reliability, preparedness, and effective communication with students and supervisors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching practices.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development related to teaching and the discipline.

Preferred Competencies

  • College-level teaching experience teaching introductory microeconomics and/or macroeconomics courses.
  • Ability to integrate real-world, business, or policy-based examples into instruction.
  • Experience teaching in online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Familiarity with active and applied learning strategies that support student engagement.
  • Experience using learning management systems and instructional technologies.
