Part-time Lecturer: Law, Business, and Society
NYU Prague is seeking a Lecturer to teach Law, Business & Society, beginning in the Spring 2026 semester (mid-January-mid-May).
Course Description
This course is an introductory course that provides students who have no previous knowledge with a basic understanding of the American legal system. The instructor will present legal cases and hypotheticals from the perspective of multiple stakeholders while focusing on the connection between law, business, and society. The instructor will also demonstrate how laws may reflect societal norms, promote material well-being and reflect economic/historical conditions. In addition, the instructor will illustrate the inherent difficulty in predicting exactly how laws will be applied.
The course consists of a common core of customized course readings drawn upon judicial decisions, statutes, scholarly works and multimedia. This course emphasizes analytical writing of the type required in business and the written assignments are designed to help students learn how to engage in thorough analysis, address arguments made by both sides, and write clearly, concisely and convincingly.
Teaching and Learning Expectations
Instructors are expected to participate in the drafting, grading and administration of a variety of assignments throughout the course, including weekly homework, short paper assignments, debates and exams.
Each class session may include a variety of activities, including discussion, writing, debates, and other participatory exercises. These activities are designed to promote a reflective dialogue about course themes, and the instructor’s teaching style should be highly interactive.
The instructor is also responsible for:
- Reviewing course material and generally adhering to a common syllabus
- Creating a classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and learning
- Providing extra support to students through office hours, when requested
- Keeping up-to-date with advancements in the field and integrating new knowledge into lessons
Candidates should have teaching experience in law, business ethics, or related disciplines, a strong knowledge of U.S. legal frameworks with openness to global perspectives, and the ability to engage a diverse, international student body in a dynamic learning environment.
