JOB DESCRIPTION
The Labovitz School of Business and Economics at the University of Minnesota Duluth has the need for a part-time, non-tenure track, adjunct faculty in the area of Business Law at the Instructor/Teaching Assistant Professor level for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. The individual hired for this position will have responsibilities in teaching one or more undergraduate courses in the area of Business Law. We are a place-based institution and expect faculty to be present on campus and engage in person in the life of the school.
The candidate hired to teach this course will have responsibilities for managing all aspects of teaching the course, including course development, course delivery, grading, and communicating with students. The department will provide guidance on course content and syllabus. The candidate is also expected to hold office hours (in-person or virtual) to ensure access to students outside of class hours.
Qualifications
Required/Essential:
- A minimum of a Master’s degree in law or a Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited institution.
- Work experience that demonstrates active involvement in the area of Business Law. A Juris Doctorate (JD) degree also fulfills this requirement.
- Effective communication skills.
- Eligibility to teach in the school's accredited programs is determined by the review of the applicant's demonstrated evidence of their full-time work experience and engagement in professional activities (e.g., attending business/professional events participation in professional development activities, service on boards, or continuing education, etc.) in addition to achieving the minimum conditions for one of the four 2020 AACSB faculty qualifications [Scholarly Academic (SA), Practice Academic (PA), Scholarly Practitioner (SP), or Instructional Practitioner (IP)] as defined by LSBE.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching at least one university-level course as instructor or teaching assistant. Experience in either training or public speaking within an organized setting can substitute for teaching experience.
- Five or more years of high level and relevant legal work experience.
- Active engagement with the business community.
- Demonstrated evidence of using a variety of teaching methods in a classroom.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $4,800.00-$7,000.00 per course; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
