Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The primary purpose of the Part Time Scribe/Reader is to provide Reader/Scribe services at in-class lectures, discussions, and tests, and potentially a variety of other situations. Readers/Scribes support and promote all students' right to communication equity in the classroom.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Takes lecture notes/dictation for students in a classroom setting (may include, but is not limited to, notes from class lecture, video/audio presentations, handouts, and written information presented on the board)
- Fills-in and writes-out test answers for students at their instruction
- Takes student work and verbally relay information in a classroom setting
- Maintains professional boundaries in class and during tests
- Supports and promotes all faculty and students' rights to communication equity in the classroom and work environment
- Learns to use and demonstrates adaptive technology to students
- Converts and edits academic media
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

- Ability to work a flexible schedule

- Active listener and strong ability to take clear and accurate notes at a reasonable speed

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
- Hours will vary based on student/department needs. May require evening and weekend hours
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED
