FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Schedule: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows: Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB) - $89.20 up to $130.94 per hour. Lecture Course (Salary Schedule AJ) - $103.85 up to $151.07.

Months Per Year: Semester assignments as needed

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach classes as assigned from the regular curriculum.
  2. Assist in curriculum assessment, revisions, and new course development.
  3. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
  4. Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies and curricula.
  5. Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs.

Employment Standards

Knowledge of:

  1. And experience in the fields of health, wellness, and integrative/complementary and alternative medicine environments

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Three years of working in an integrative health and wellness environment
  2. Two years of recent full-time or part-time equivalent experience teaching in wellness, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)/holistic/integrative therapies, and/or sciences at the college level (lecture and lab-based courses)
  3. Communicate effectively, written and orally, with students and colleagues
  4. Commitment to remain current in health, wellness, well-being, and integrative/CAM/holistic therapies
  5. Experience designing health, wellness, well-being, and integrative/CAM/holistic therapy curriculum
  6. Experience and proficiency in the utilization of the laboratory and laboratory equipment and the associated instruction appropriate for various health, wellness, and well-being-related courses
  7. Develop instructional learning outcomes and to develop methods for assessing students' achievement of these outcomes, as well as to ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress and use the assessment of one's pedagogy and examine its effect critically
  8. Commitment to creative use of technology in teaching and learning, in environments such as computer-assisted or smart classrooms, class websites, or online platforms
  9. Engage students from a broad spectrum of academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds in the classroom and in consultation, in person or through the use of technology
  10. Enthusiasm for, understanding of, and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college
  11. A commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of the College
  12. Use teaching methods that engage students actively in their learning, promote the development of critical thinking skills, and encourage them to become lifelong learners
  13. Use instructional methods that emphasize group cooperation and collaboration and that reflect cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches to the subject matter
  14. Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline, and related technology appropriate for integrative/holistic health, wellness, and well-being instruction
  15. Organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences
  16. Commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning including the ability to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's pedagogy and to make such reflection public
  17. Initiative and commitment to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the spirit of collegiality and innovation to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success
  18. Commitment to professional responsibilities outside of the classroom through enthusiastic contributions to department, division, and college activities

Job Requirements:

  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent (see below). Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment.
  • Two years of recent full-time or part-time equivalent experience teaching at the community college and/or college-level
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

Preferred

  • Professional and/or educational experience in a variety of health and wellness-related professions.
  • Professional experience in delivering integrative health modalities including naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, or osteopathic medicine.
  • Professional experience working as part of a multidisciplinary health team.
  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and particular fields shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students.
  • Experience and skill with addressing inequity in the classroom and on campus.
  • Experience and expertise in culturally-responsive teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within wellness courses and classrooms.
