Serve as a liaison between insurance and health care providers to ensure the timely coordination, and accurate processing, of patient referrals required for medical specialty visits.

Major/Essential Functions
Referral Management
- Process incoming/outgoing referrals; verify accuracy and required documentation.
- Monitor work queues to ensure timely progression and follow-up.
- Track referral status through closure; resolve issues and escalate delays as needed.
- Liaise between referring providers, specialists, and external offices.
- Communicate referral status, barriers, and required actions.
- Ensure complete documentation is available for receiving providers.
- Communicate referral status and next steps to patients.
- Assist with scheduling and provide visit instructions.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in referral coordination, care coordination, or prior authorization workflows.
- Experience working within an electronic medical record (EMR) system (e.g., Epic) and managing referral work queues.
- Knowledge of insurance requirements, prior authorizations, and payer guidelines.
- Experience coordinating with multi-specialty clinics or high-volume ambulatory settings.
- Experience with patient scheduling and access coordination across multiple locations or systems.
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and healthcare regulatory standards.
- Prior experience in process improvement, workflow optimization, or reporting/metrics tracking.

Required Qualifications
Associate degree plus one (1) year of experience directly related to the processing of patient referrals; OR High school diploma or GED plus three (3) years of experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant; OR High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years of experience directly related to patient registration, patient scheduling, patient billing/collections, the processing of prior authorizations, and/or the processing of patient referrals.
