Payroll Associate
Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Payroll Associate. The Payroll Associate is responsible for performing payroll functions related to processing payroll from start to finish for all College payroll categories: ex. Faculty, Administrative, Support Staff, Students, and Summer Pays. This individual will display impeccable character. This individual must be discreet in handling sensitive information; be service oriented and be motivated to deliver high levels of customer service.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in business related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- One year of accounting, payroll, reconciliation, or closely related experience required.
- Experience with Microsoft applications.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience in a union environment.
- Experience with wage and hour compliance.
- Ability to improve processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality; adherence to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
- Ability to act independently; ability to complete job-related tasks without direct supervision.

The ideal candidate will have a career that reflects the following qualifications and competencies: Experience using an integrated student information system such as Colleague by Ellucian (Datatel Colleague) Banner by Ellucian, or PeopleSoft is a plus.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for processing payroll from start to finish for all College payroll categories: ex. Faculty, Administrative, Support Staff, Students, and Summer Pays.
- Create and maintain computerized payroll records for College employees.
- Create and maintain computerized payroll records for College extra-contractual assignments - some with multiple assignments.
- Maintain and verify employee screens and data in computerized payroll system for proper processing.
- Audit and verify accuracy of timecards.
- Verify, input, and maintain all voluntary and mandatory deductions including but not limited to tax sheltered annuities, new tax information, direct deposits, garnishments, or any other deductions files and information as necessary.
- Prepare and ensure accuracy of payment requests for all voluntary and mandatory payroll deduction payments including but not limited to tax withholdings, 403B, 457, pension, pension supplements, and garnishments, or any other deduction payments as necessary.
- Establish direct deposit and pay card setups. Review and resolve return or discrepancies, as necessary.
- Reconcile and resolve differences on payroll-related general ledger accounts monthly.
- Prepare and/or assist as requested in the printing, verification, and mailing of annual W-2's and W-3.
- Assist in backfilling Payroll Specialist job functions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of qualifications and/or training.
