Pediatric Nephrologist

This is an incredible opportunity to join a collegial academic environment and work in a children’s hospital ranked as one of the best in the U.S. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Nephrologist with specific interest in pediatric kidney transplantation. Depending on interest and qualifications, the successful applicant will either assume the role of Medical Director of Kidney Transplantation immediately or have the option to be mentored into that role over 1-3 years by the current Medical Director and Division Chief Dr. David K. Hooper, MD. In addition, the provider will have the opportunity to care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of kidney disorders, including those patients on dialysis and with kidney transplants in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The provider must be capable of performing procedures including hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, peritoneal dialysis, therapeutic plasma exchange, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and kidney biopsy with sedation. Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children’s Hospitals in Salt Lake City and Lehi, UT, as well as University of Utah Hospital and Clinics, with the potential for outreach clinics in the future. Teaching and research are encouraged, but the degree will vary depending on the rank, track, and job description. Upon assuming the responsibility of Medical Director of Kidney Transplantation, dedicated administrative effort will be allocated to lead and develop that program.

Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatric Nephrology and possess excellent procedural and clinical skills. The successful candidate will receive a faculty appointment on the Clinical or Tenure track in the Department of Pediatrics at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department and University offer a competitive salary and an unmatched benefits program including non-contributory retirement contributions of 20.2 percent of annual salary that vest immediately. The Department offers a faculty development and mentoring program designed to foster success in translational or basic research, quality improvement, and excellence as educators.

Salt Lake City is a rapidly growing, vibrant city in the Intermountain West, with a nationally recognized Broadway theater, ballet, symphony, and several professional sports teams. Outdoor activities are unparalleled: the city is a ski destination and a gateway to the state’s renowned red rock landscapes. In addition to its 15 ski resorts, Utah boasts five national parks (with five more within a half-day’s drive), a variety of golf courses allowing for year-round play, hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, picturesque lakes, and numerous other outdoor activities.
