The opportunity

Within the Integrated PhD Program, a PhD opportunity is available aligned with the Centre of Research Excellence in Achieving Health Equity for all Australians with Disability (AHEAD). This project focuses on health equity, access, and inequality for people with disability, and contributes directly to nationally significant health and disability policy reforms.

The successful candidate will undertake data-driven, policy-relevant research using advanced quantitative methods, including causal econometric analysis and predictive economic modelling, to assess the economic and distributional impacts of policy interventions across healthcare and disability service systems. The project involves close collaboration with researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to inform resource allocation, service design, and decision-making, translating complex empirical findings into actionable policy insights.

This PhD offers a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative disability reform through rigorous, evidence-based research that informs policy and practice.

Integrated PhD Program

The project is based in the Centre for Health Economics (CHE), a large and active economics research group within the Monash Business School.

As a candidate in the CHE Integrated PhD Program, you will receive rigorous training in advanced health economics and related studies.

The Integrated Program starts with advanced coursework, research training and a minor thesis packaged into a Master of Commerce (MCom) degree, and takes one year to complete.

Provided you meet the agreed conditions, you will then progress to the PhD, which involves high quality research training and career development, culminating in a written thesis. The PhD stage will typically take three and a half years to complete.

You will also enjoy opportunities for domestic and international conference travel and the potential to undertake international research visits.

PhD students at the Centre for Health Economics are supported to pursue research with real-world impact.
