Job Summary: This PhD position focuses on modelling the behaviour of immersed tunnel joints within the Futureproof Tunnels research program by TU Delft and COB. It involves studying the deformation behaviour and reliability of joints in immersed tunnels, including how segment joints with collar construction behave under large deformations and the effects of soil ingress on seasonal deformations.
Responsibilities: Combine numerical and physical modelling to gain insights into joint behaviour, interact closely with other researchers on monitoring and modelling of immersed tunnel deformations, and cooperate with industry expert committees.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, aptitude for experimental testing and numerical modelling, background in soil mechanics and structural mechanics, and high proficiency in written and spoken Dutch and English.
Requirements: Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team, and enrollment in the TU Delft Graduate School.
What the Employer Offers: A 4-year employment contract (initial 1.5 years with assessment, followed by 2.5 years), salary from €3059 to €3881 per month, enrollment in the TU Delft Graduate School for skill development, customizable compensation package, health insurance discounts, monthly work costs contribution, flexible work schedules, and support for relocation including events and a Dual Career Programme.
