Offer Description
PhD position (m/f, 1 position) for a fixed term of five (5) years for the purpose of obtaining the academic degree of Doctor of Science.
The PhD candidate will work in the field of experimental condensed matter physics on the research topics conducted within the project "Ground states in competition - strong correlations, frustrations and disorder - FrustKor". The topic of the doctoral thesis will be quantum critical phenomena in selected organic superconductors under extreme conditions of temperature, magnetic field, and pressure.
The research will be conducted in the Group for Experimental Research of Advanced Electronic Materials in the Department for Research of Materials under Extreme Conditions of the Institute of Physics.
The PhD candidate will be supervised by Dr. Matija Čulo (mculo@ifs.hr).
Research methods include experimental laboratory work, with an emphasis on work with cryogenic liquids, superconducting magnets, high vacuum, pressure cells, and experimental setups for measruements of magnetotransport and magnetic properties of sensitive organic samples.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong motivation for the laboratory work related to the proposed research topic and to be fluent in English, both in speaking and writing.
Preference will be given to applicants who have previously demonstrated excellence and independence in scientific work (e.g., awards, scholarships, published scientific papers, participation at conferences), as well as to those with practical experience in the research methods mentioned above.
Mandatory requirements: Completed undergraduate and graduate studies in physics or an equivalent qualification, and eligibility for enrollment in a doctoral program in physics.
