General Summary
Odessa College, a leading community college in the country, has an opening for a full-time, in-person instructional position in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program.
Specific Position Duties
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field and in the physical therapy field. Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college.
- Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
- Provides students with written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, and graded evaluations.
- Administers tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives.
- By various ways and means of instructing students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn.
- Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity.
- Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities.
- Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner.
- Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, and provide timely electronic communication, and other suitable means.
- Effectively handles routine procedures necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the department chair.
- Submits required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the department chair.
- Maintains positive and effective working relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college and community, including members of the OC physical therapist assistant department, staff and administrators.
- Maintains individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements.
- Assists with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs.
- Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service.
- Develops assigned curricular content.
- Designs and implements assigned instructional didactic and laboratory activities.
- Evaluates student didactic and laboratory outcomes.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Assists with activities to maintain program accreditation.
- Assists with planning the instructional program and policies.
- Participates in program administrative activities, such as advisory committee meetings, budget preparation, physical therapy club, etc.
- Participates in other departmental, college, and community activities.
- Teaches assigned Physical Therapist Assistant classes and labs according to approved course syllabi.
- Utilizes, or is willing to learn, technology such as Blackboard, WebEx, Tegrity, Smartboard and skills laboratory equipment.
- Adheres to the requirements, standards and guidelines set forth by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the American Physical Therapy Association and other organizations that are deemed appropriate to maintain high standards in the department.
- Keeps department chair and dean informed of matters affecting the welfare of students, faculty and the institution.
- Attends departmental meetings and other meetings called by College administrative personnel.
- Submits required college reports on time, e.g., census day rolls, grades, leave documents, etc.
- Attends completion ceremonies, such college graduation at least once per academic year.
- Participates in appropriate professional and community service activities.
- Serves as a positive role model for students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates degree or higher from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current, unrestricted license as a PTA or PT in the state of Texas, or eligible to be licensed
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time, post-licensure clinical experience
- Evidence of contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and evaluation of student learning (e.g. post-professional academic education, continuing education, certifications, scholarly activity, or course development)
