Job Summary
The Pipefitter is responsible for installing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing various mechanical piping systems essential to the institute's operations. This includes high- and low-pressure systems for heating, cooling, steam distribution, domestic and process water, and specialized research applications.
Responsibilities
- Job Duty 1 - Install, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair mechanical piping systems and related equipment across campus facilities.
- Job Duty 2 - Read, interpret, and work from architectural and mechanical drawings, piping schematics, and technical documentation.
- Job Duty 3 - Perform hot work, including welding and oxyacetylene cutting, producing certifiable welds.
- Job Duty 4 - Inspect, test, and maintain piping control systems and associated instrumentation; Conduct pressure testing and inspections to ensure system integrity and compliance.
- Job Duty 5 - Operate and maintain machine tools, maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, hand/power tools, and light/heavy equipment as needed.
- Job Duty 6 - Collaborate with engineering, custodial, and other trades staff to support construction, renovations, and preventative maintenance.
- Job Duty 7 - Ensure compliance with institutional safety protocols, building codes, and environmental regulations.
- Job Duty 8 - Maintain accurate records of work orders, materials, and inspections.
- Job Duty 9 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational School Diploma. Vocational training or a degree may be preferred or required.
Required Experience
Eight or more years of relevant experience.

Certification, License or Permits
Completion of a pipefitting apprenticeship
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field, or equivalent
Valid Georgia Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
- Constantly walking, climbing, lifting (minimum 50 lbs), welding, grinding, oxy/acetylene cutting, and driving
- Occasionally working long hours and staying overnight as required by business needs
- Occasionally working in confined spaces and outdoors in extreme heat and cold

Pay Range Starting At: $31.44/hr - $40.00/hr Salary will be commensurate with experience.
