Police Officer I
Job Duties
The Police Officer is a sworn law enforcement position under the limited direction of the Police Sergeant, Police Lieutenant or Chief of Police. Officers must be capable of providing a full range of law enforcement services. They enforce laws, investigate complaints, investigate incidents that may have an impact on the University, maintain order, assist people, identify criminal activity, apprehend and arrest offenders, identify the source of problems in the Stout community and work with the Stout community to resolve issues.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information
- Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others
- Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community
- Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community
- Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws
Required Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age by hire date
- Must possess or be eligible to possess a Wisconsin Driver’s License.
- Minimum of 60 college credits earned/completed within 5 years from date of hire.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special events.
