Job Summary:

Education and Experience:
- Minimum requirement is a BS or BT in Metallurgy or Materials Science or a related field, plus a minimum of two years’ work experience at a technical or professional level in metallurgy, materials or metals manufacturing or nondestructive testing in at least penetrant, ultrasonics and radiography.
- An Associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of the required education if the applicant has additional related, professional level work experience beyond the two-year requirement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of business and industry needs as it relates to metallurgy, materials, nondestructive testing.
- Must have a broad range of knowledge in work processes and tasks related to metallurgy and materials testing including data acquisition, photo stress analysis, and statistical process control or quality control.
- Must be organized, able to prioritize work, and follow through to completion of complex tasks.
- Must have good interpersonal communication skills, as this position requires networking and the ability to build effective business partnerships.
- Requires excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to encourage flexibility from others and provide guidance in accomplishing goals and tasks.
- Requires knowledge of college and state regulations and processes for program development and approval.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching or training experience in metallurgy, materials, nondestructive testing or a related field at the community college level is preferred.
- Prefer certification or ability to be certified at a Level II or higher standing in Radiography, Penetrant, Ultrasonics, Eddy Current and Magnetic Particle Testing in accordance with SNT -TC-1A recommendations, and have a broad range of knowledge in work processes and tasks related to metallurgy and materials testing technicians including date acquisition, photo stress analysis, statistical process control or quality control.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Requires the ability to work with staff and students.
- Work is performed primarily indoors in the NDT testing lab, with potential exposure to safety or health hazards. Work may have potential exposure to radiation from use of X-Ray equipment.
Essential Duties:
- Instruct nondestructive testing series including ultrasonics (UT), radiography (RT), penetrant (PT) and magnetic particle (MT) at Levels I and II in accordance with SNT -TC-1A 1992 edition or later. May teach courses in metallurgy, materials testing, fundamentals of specifications, strength and behavior of materials, polymers, composites, metal matrices, ceramics, injection molding, print reading, dimensioning, welding processes, welding metallurgy, metallography, physical and extractive metallurgy, failure analysis or other related metallurgy and materials topics.
- Establish relationships with local industry and schools.
- Collaborate with Industry and High School partners to research labor market needs and occupational demand.
- Understand College’s strategic goals of Productivity, Equity, and Quality and ensure measures of program effectiveness align with achieving these goals.
- Consult and collaborate with local industry to research and recommend materials and equipment that need to be purchased in support of the program(s).
- Plan, prepare, and participate in student recruitment.
- Advise students on their progression and other related needs.
- Evaluate students in the classroom and laboratory. Compile reports reflecting the evaluation.
- Function as a member of the Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Technology division.
- Participate on department and college committees as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Dean, Business, Applied Technology and Industry.
