Position Summary: The post-doctoral research associate will work on identifying diverse thiosulfinate tolerance gene cluster in bacterial pathogens affecting Alliums. This position will functionally validate these clusters and assess their role in tolerating thiosulfinate in vitro and in vivo. Opportunities are also available to study molecular docking and identify suitable candidates that will made bacteria sensitive to thiosulfinates in Alliums. The incumbent will take a leadership role in data collection, data analysis, and compiling manuscripts for publication in appropriate journals. This position will work closely with different key industry stakeholders, and could be involved in supervising undergraduates. The incumbent will also present results at local and national conferences.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification: PhD in plant pathology or biochemistry with emphasis on bioinformatics.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Working understanding and experience with host and pathogen genomes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Utilize state-of-the-art technologies but not limited to genomics, computational biology to identify novel thiosulfinate gene clusters in diverse bacterial pathogens affecting Alliums (40%)
- Work closely with different key industry stakeholders, and be involved in training undergraduate and graduate students, keeping records related to research projects, synthesizing data, presenting results at local and national conferences and preparing scientific manuscripts for publications (40%)
- Work on pathosystems that will include onion, garlic, Japanese bunching onion (20%)
