About the Job

Overview of the Job

The postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Surgery at The University of Minnesota will oversee the on-site day-to-day operation of NIH funded preclinical studies under the oversight of the Principal Investigator Dr. Christopher Banek. She/he will be responsible for the measurement and analysis of blood pressure, peripheral nerve activity, and renal function in models of hypertension and polycystic kidney disease, and perform related data analysis (generating computerized statistical data for analytical purposes and judging the validity of the data).

Job Duties

  • Preparation of research manuscripts (original manuscripts with research data or reviews) and research reports related to your projects.
  • Preparation and submission of abstracts and participation in conferences in biomedical sciences (at least one conference per year will be covered by your supervisor).
  • Participating in the preparation and submission of research and fellowship grant applications.
  • Work with and mentor other lab personnel in project implementation, data collection and analyses, writing manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Perform experiments, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Report progress regularly.
  • Write manuscripts and grant applications.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Completed PhD and have independent research ability.
  • Hands-on experience (minimum 1 year) with in vivo peripheral nerve recording in murine models
  • Hands-on experience with preclinical study data collection and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency with common computer software, physiology data analysis programs, and biostatistical software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with preclinical animal subject research principles and practices.
  • Laboratory experience in clinical research, neuroscience, cardiovascular physiology, renal physiology, and/or related fields. *Experience working directly with small rodent models.
  • Experience in IACUC protocol preparation, mentoring graduate or undergraduate students.
  • Be highly motivated and independent with a strong publication record.
  • Ability to work in a research-intensive environment.
  • Detail-oriented, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and written communication.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $63,480 - $71,748 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
