Job Summary:
The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine is seeking an energetic, full-time Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to conduct translational research investigating the underlying causes of brain dysfunction in patients with critical illness. Our team primarily focuses on the underlying biology of cognitive impairment in survivors of sepsis and lung injury. The candidate will be involved in an R01-funded project at the intersection of neurobiology, vascular biology of sepsis, and aging. The candidate should have substantial experience in neurobiology with relevant work in pre-clinical modeling of disease and molecular neuroscience methods. Experience with neurophysiology and rodent behavior is preferred. This unique opportunity will provide substantial training in pre-clinical modeling of critical illness, glycobiology, vascular biology, and translational investigations in critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experimental design and conduct to investigate cognitive outcomes in aged animals after sepsis.
- Field electrophysiology on ex vivo hippocampal slices.
- Necropsy of experimental animals including brain subregion isolation (e.g., hippocampus).
- Performance of standard molecular biology techniques.
- Updating and formulating experimental protocols.
- Careful record keeping.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent + Relevant doctoral experience in neurobiology
- Experience with mouse necropsy including hippocampal isolation.
- Experience with relevant molecular neuroscience methods (e.g., Western Blots, PCR).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with neurophysiology including field potential recordings.
- Experience with behavioral assessment of murine cognition.
- Experience in vascular biology.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills, record keeping ability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Anticipated Pay Range:
HIRING RANGE: $62,232 - $75,564 Commensurate with experience according to the NIH guidelines.
