Post-doctoral Fellow (several posts) in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences of the School of Public Health (Ref.: 534258) (to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary term contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of relevant industry experience. Proficiency in CAD software (such as SolidWorks) and PCB design tools (like Altium or KiCad) is essential. They should demonstrate hands-on experience in embedded programming (C/C++) for microcontrollers, as well as familiarity with automation tools (e.g., LabVIEW, PLC) and version control systems (e.g., Git). Additionally, they should showcase experience in prototyping, debugging, and testing integrated hardware systems. Experience in integrating camera modules and sensors (I2C, SPI, UART) is advantageous, as is knowledge of microfluidic automation, including actuators like pumps, valves, and electromagnetic components, along with heat transfer concepts. Familiarity with 3D printing or other rapid prototyping methods will also be considered as an advantage. Strong problem-solving skills, effective teamwork, and excellent communication abilities are critical, and fluency in both English and Chinese is required.

The appointees will design and prototype mechanical components of portable automated devices. They will also be responsible for developing and integrating electronic circuits, camera modules, various sensors, and embedded control systems. Responsibilities include relevant modeling, simulation, and troubleshooting. The appointees will collaborate with software teams, ecology specialists, and biomedical experts to optimize device performance, as well as support manufacturing and scalability initiatives.
