Essential Job Duties:

• We are looking to hire one researcher with a background in bioinformatics of genomic data, and/or statistical genetics. Strong skills in scripting and command line coding are necessary, are excellent written and verbal communication. Researchers with experience in polyploid or other non-model organisms are especially encouraged to apply.
• The successful researcher will collaborate with USDA-ARS breeding programs to develop genomic resources and genotyping platforms for use in genomics-based breeding strategies.
• Assist in the identification of simplex markers to track interspecific recombination.
• Contribute to the analysis and optimization of genotyping platforms tailored for rapid cycling of early-generation breeding and pre-breeding material.
• Support the development of computational tools and pipelines for managing polyploid genomic data and integrating it into breeding workflows.

Departmental Required Skills:

• Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Quantitative Genetics, Molecular Breeding, Plant or Animal Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related field awarded in the last five years
• Background in bioinformatics of genomic and molecular data, and/or statistical genetics.
• Must have experience in genome assembly, linkage mapping, genomic variant calling and validation, and ad-hoc bioinformatics.
• Must be proficient with R and/or Python and Linux/Unix systems.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

• Strong skills in computer scripting and pipeline development.
• Experience working in high-performance computing environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are beneficial.
