Post Graduate Research Assistant for the Exploration of Phase Diagrams of Low-Dimensional Molecular Materials (Fixed Term)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

Applicants are invited to apply for a position in the group of Mariana Rossi. The candidate will be work on topics related to the ERC-Consolidator Grant QUADYMM.

For this position, the candidate will explore the phase diagram of low-dimensional molecular materials of interest for optoelectronic applications. The candidate will build automated structure search strategies leveraging machine-learning methods, that explore and construct phase diagrams of low-dimensional molecular interfaces. The implementations will be performed on an in-house code that couples to external large-scale community codes. Database creation and the application of statistical mechanics techniques for reliable phase-space exploration will be carried out.

The successful candidate will work in a lively group and an excellent research environment, with sufficient computational resources to complete the project. Collaborations with other theory and experimental groups are welcome, and participation in international research conferences strongly supported.

We are looking for highly qualified candidates with experience in the field of electronic structure calculations and machine learning, as well as some experience with molecular dynamics techniques. Programming expertise is desirable. An interdisciplinary background, covering topics on physics, chemistry and material science, including experience in experimental groups conducting experiments on organic and inorganic materials is also desirable.

The candidate should have performed studies in the fields of Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science. We will select candidates that show proficiency in maths, as well as a strong background in theoretical and computational solid-state physics, physical chemistry or chemical physics.

We particularly welcome applications from women and /or candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.
