PostDoc in Gender-Related Violence
Job Summary
This PostDoc position focuses on providing in-depth insights into (fatal) violence against women in the Netherlands through quantitative analysis of data from the Dutch Femicide Monitor, linked to CBS microdata. The project aims to consolidate empirical data, build a comprehensive dataset, and develop theoretical frameworks to understand and respond to gender-related violence, including femicide.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research and contribute to articles on gender-related violence.
- Participate in the project's research, publication, education, and communication activities, including collecting and analyzing data, co-authoring academic and non-academic publications, and assisting in organizing and presenting at workshops and conferences.
- Integrate data from various sources, such as the Dutch Femicide Monitor, criminal justice system, media, and CBS microdata, to analyze patterns and causes of gender-related violence.
- Engage in the intellectual life of the institute.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A PhD in criminology, sociology, psychology, medicine, or a relevant social science discipline.
- Excellent proficiency in English and Dutch (candidates without Dutch proficiency are not eligible).
- Excellent command of and experience with quantitative research methods, including cleaning large-scale datasets, linking, and analyzing big data files.
- Previous experience with CBS microdata is preferred.
- Substantive interest in and extensive background knowledge of research on violence, with a focus on gender-related violence.
- Excellent academic skills, demonstrated in previous scientific publications.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, as shown in prior research or work experience.
- Strong ethical commitment to critically investigating and meaningfully responding to violence against women.
What the Employer Offers
- A temporary employment contract for 18 months at 0.8 FTE (80%).
- A salary ranging from €3,378 to €5,331 gross per month for a full-time appointment (38 hours), based on the cao Nederlandse Universiteiten scale.
