Postdoc in Statistics
Job Summary
The project aims to use big data from sources like OpenStreetMap and Google Trends as auxiliary information to enhance small area estimates of attitudes towards LGBTQ+ communities in Europe. It investigates research questions on comparing variables from big data versus traditional sources, combining data sources in area-level models, and correcting for errors.
Responsibilities
- Look for potential data sources and identify their advantages and disadvantages within sub-national analyses.
- Identify measurement errors and selectivity issues from those data sources and formulate modelling strategies to account for them.
- Estimate small area models and produce maps after assessing modelling results.
- Produce Open Source R software.
- Write reports and research articles as a co-author.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a PhD (or are close to submission) in statistics, data science, or a related field.
- Strong statistical background.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Solid expertise in statistical modelling.
- Advanced R skills.
- Ideally, expertise in survey statistics, data integration methods, and knowledge of small area estimation.
What the Employer Offers
- A fixed-term job for six months (if holding a PhD) or seven months (if not), with a working week of 36-40 hours.
- Gross monthly salary of €4,227 (scale 10.5) for those with PhD, or €4,060 (scale 9.3) for those without, under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
- 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus.
