Postdoctoral Associate
Job Details
Post Doctoral Associate
Med-Structural Biology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh
Overall Summary
One postdoctoral position is available in Prof. Andrew Hinck’s lab (https://www.hincklab.structbio.pitt.edu) in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Structural Biology. In my laboratory, a major area of emphasis is studying signaling proteins and receptors of the TGF-beta family, a highly diversified signaling family, with representative family members in both invertebrates and vertebrates. In our research, we are interested in deciphering the molecular adaptations that the signaling proteins, single-pass transmembrane receptors, downstream effectors, and multitude of extracellular and intracellular modulators have acquired, with an eye toward better understanding the mechanisms by which they achieve their unique biological functions. In the laboratory, we rely heavily on all the major tools of structural biology (NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, single-particle Cryo-EM) and accompanying biophysical methods, such as ITC, SPR, SEC-MALS, and SAXS. Importantly, all projects are carried out with a diverse group of national and international collaborators with expertise in the underlying biology, allowing us to take an integrated approach to illuminate molecular mechanisms in biology. Our laboratory is fully equipped for all aspects of molecular biology and biophysics and has direct access to a large shared bioNMR and Cryo-EM faciliities at the University of Pittsburgh (see https://www.structbio.pitt.edu).
