Scope of Job:
UTRGV Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (IAM, www.utrgv.edu/iam) is seeking applications for Two Postdoc Fellow position supporting projects related to Metallurgy, Materials for Fusion Energy, Additive Manufacturing, AI in Manufacturing and Autonomous Experimentation. Through multiple external funded projects, UTRGV IAM builds strong research, education and exposure programs for defense materials and manufacturing, energy manufacturing, and cyber systems, leveraging our strength in AI and Additive, Convergent and Transformative Manufacturing processes. Through interdisciplinary research and impactful technology transfer programs, the UTRGV IAM contributes to building the world-class America manufacturing base in Texas, the U.S. and beyond. IAM offers strategically restructured research, education, and workforce development programs, through which we prepare world-class engineers and workers who are acquainted with skills needed to operate, design, develop, and manage the advanced manufacturing processes and systems. This trainee position allows the Postdoc to pursue research as a vital component of his/her educational mission and professional career development. Description of Duties:
Duties of this Postdoc Fellow position include: Developing, testing, and analyzing research results through empirical and computation methods to support projects funded by federal agencies with background in metallurgy, fusion materials, additive manufacturing, laser material processing, and fusion energy; Aiding in the development of research instrument, testing the new processes and disseminating the discoveries related to abovementioned topics; Writing narrative summaries of the research results, and related tasks under the supervision of the faculty member assigned; Conducting background research; Developing and implementing an evaluation plan and preparing progress reports as needed; Studying, testing, and maintaining accurate data identified as relevant and/or best practice systems from research results obtained through planned studies; Designing and implementing training activities as required; Publishing in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned; and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education:
Doctoral degree from an accredited University (based on funding restrictions degree may need to have been conferred within a set period of time previous to assuming position).

Licenses/Certifications:
None.
Required Experience:
Research experiences in metallurgy and metal additive manufacturing.
Preferred Experience:
Research experiences as demonstrated in publications on topics in Metallurgy, Materials, AI, and Advanced Manufacturing Processes.
Equipment:
Use and operation of research equipment and machines including LPBF, Laser DED, WAAM, Cold Spray System. Operation of instruments including SME, XRD, and testing equipment. Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications.
Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
