The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Villanova University and Dr. Kevin Minbiole invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry. The position is renewable for up to three years and intended for candidates interested in an academic career at a primarily undergraduate (or masters-granting) institution.

As such, responsibilities are divided between research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the oversight of a federally-funded undergraduate- and masters-level research group, with research focusing on the chemical synthesis of disinfectant amphiphiles.

Duties and Responsibilities

The area of research is focused on the synthesis of quaternary ammonium compounds that show antibacterial activity. Techniques commonly used in the lab center around the synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic small molecules. Additional opportunities to pursue independent research interests may be provided. There will be significant mentoring of undergraduate and masters research students.

The candidate will also teach four courses/laboratories per year in organic chemistry and other disciplines, with occasional opportunities at the graduate level.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A Ph.D. in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related area

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty
  • A desire to teach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience mentoring undergraduate researchers
