Job Summary
A training position designed to learn, through engagement, in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of a research program. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. This post-doctoral position will focus on the directions for the recent funded Strategically Focused Research Network on Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome: Heterogeneity in Women. The fellow will conduct research in cardiovascular epidemiology research with other investigators within and outside of AU, publish work in peer reviewed journals of the field, and disseminate collaborative work through presentations and collaborative manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
The Department of Biostatistics, Data Science and Epidemiology (BDSE) in the School of Public Health at Augusta University (AU) invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow in epidemiology to start in Summer 2026. Applicants should have experience, interest and ability in cardiovascular disease epidemiology research in women. The position will remain open until filled.
Responsibilities
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols and carry out experiments while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical and/or radio-chemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, macro- and micro-serological, histologic and cell culture procedures.
Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally.
Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
Work with students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities.
Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology or a closely related field. M.D./PhD candidates with experience and interest in cardiovascular disease epidemiology will also be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
Solid background in graduate-level statistics and machine learning algorithms.
Proficiency in at least one of the popular programming languages for machine learning and statistical research and data analysis.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines.
Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
