Offer Description
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in theoretical condensed matter physics within 2DQUEST — Quantum Engineering in Superconducting Graphene for Topological Qubits, a QuantERA 2025 project. The successful candidate will join the Madrid team led by Tobias Stauber, collaborating with theoretical and experimental groups at Chalmers University of Technology and the universities of Göttingen and Regensburg.
Research project
The project explores topological superconductivity and Majorana modes in graphene through proximity effects and intrinsic, interaction-driven superconductivity in rhombohedral multilayers. The Madrid postdoc will develop many-body models of correlated and superconducting phases, contribute to the FORGE framework for large-scale simulations of graphene nanoribbons and junctions, and investigate quantum transport in close dialogue with experimental partners.
Relevant approaches include self-consistent Hartree–Fock theory, renormalization-group analysis and Green’s-function methods. The position offers opportunities to develop independent research within the project, publish results, participate in scientific meetings and undertake research visits, with access to advanced computational resources.
Research environment
The Quantum Advanced Research Center (QuARC-CSIC), currently organised as a virtual institute. Research will initially be based at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), Cantoblanco, one of CSIC’s largest research centres. ICMM provides an established environment in materials science and condensed matter physics. QuARC’s growing community, with strong activity in quantum optics, offers complementary opportunities for exchange across quantum technologies, alongside our group’s focus on quantum materials and superconductivity.
