Job Summary: Delft University of Technology is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to work on "Stock-constrained design of circular timber structures" as part of the WoodStock project. This involves contributing to circular, resource-efficient timber structures using underutilised wood sources.
Responsibilities: Develop a computational workflow for designing load-bearing structures from reclaimed or locally sourced wood, including component characterization, stock-constrained design, and digital fabrication. Demonstrate the workflow through a 1:1 prototype. Additionally, support teaching activities, advise PhD researchers, and assist with funding applications.
Qualifications and Requirements: Hold an MSc in Architecture, Building Technology, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field; have obtained a PhD on a related topic; possess a strong technical background and experience in structural and computational design; have a strong affinity for timber and timber architecture; be independent, self-motivated, and skilled in research including experimental work; able to work in a team with excellent English communication skills. Desirable: Hands-on experience with wood, biobased materials, and 1:1 fabrication.
What the Employer Offers: A 2-year contract for 36-40 hours per week; salary and benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities; customizable compensation package; discounts on health insurance; monthly work costs contribution; flexible work schedules; relocation support including events and Dual Career Programme.
