"Postdoctoral Position on Timber and Biobased Structures of the 21st Century"

Job Summary: Delft University of Technology is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to expand research on timber and biobased structures and materials. The role involves hands-on and experimental research within an international team focused on circular and resource-efficient construction practices using locally-sourced timber and biobased materials.

Responsibilities: Develop original research complementary to the team's ongoing work, such as topics on reuse of post-consumer timber, utilization of local resource streams, development of hybrid or composite systems, novel timber connections, and engineering new biocomposites. Contribute to funding acquisition, set up and coordinate the BioBuild Lab for fabrication and testing of components up to 1:1 scale, collaborate on experimental research, build research proposals, set up industry collaborations, and support teaching activities with a focus on hands-on lab work.

Qualifications and Requirements: Hold an MSc degree in Architecture, Building Technology, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field, and have obtained a PhD with a dissertation on a related topic. Possess a strong technical background, experience with wood and/or other biobased materials, and hands-on experimental research including 1:1 fabrication. Be independent, self-motivated, eager to learn, able to work in a team, proactive, and have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

What the Employer Offers: A 2-year contract for 36-40 hours per week.
