Postdoctoral Research Associate in Genomics

About the Role

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Genomics Diversity Group, a global leader in ancestrally diverse studies of non-communicable diseases. You will lead and support projects using GWAS, Mendelian Randomisation, and polygenic risk score analysis to uncover genetic mechanisms underlying complex traits. There are opportunities to integrate omics data across PHURI’s multidisciplinary research themes. We value scientific excellence, mentoring, and career development within a supportive, collaborative team. Join us to help translate genomic discoveries into clinically meaningful insights.

About You

We are looking for a motivated researcher with a PhD (or near completion in 2025/26) in statistical genomics, genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have national-level research experience in the genetics of non-communicable diseases, demonstrated through high-impact publications. You will bring strong bioinformatics skills, experience managing and analysing ancestrally diverse genomic datasets, and expertise in computational genetics, including variant annotation and genome-scale analyses. Proficiency in R or Python, excellent analytical abilities, and a collaborative approach are essential. A clear vision for independent research and future funding is highly desirable.

About the PHURI

The Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI) aims to improve health through data-driven medicine. PHURI builds on the close partnerships between Queen Mary University of London and Barts NHS Trust, continuing our shared focus on accelerating the latest healthcare innovations from the bench to bedside. Working closely with Barts Health NHS Trust we will ensure that our research is focused on where it is most needed. Using real-world clinical data, we will drive the development and targeted prescription of treatments based on patients’ needs. This will help to build a stronger and more focused health service for the diverse communities of East London, the UK and the world.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities. Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
