Postdoctoral Research Associate
The University of Edinburgh - Institute of Cell Biology
Location: Edinburgh
Salary: £41,064 to £48,822 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 7th October 2025
Closes: 3rd November 2025

Full-time: 35 hours per week
Fixed Term: 24 months (start date 1st February 2026)
The Opportunity:
We are looking to recruit an ambitious, creative and motivated postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) with structural biology and protein biophysics experience to join the Crosby Lab at the University of Edinburgh.
You will join a focussed and friendly research team to work on a Wellcome-funded project on the molecular mechanisms by which circadian proteins interact to generate circadian rhythms in mammals, and how this is regulated by specific post-translational modifications. This project has the potential to lead to exciting and significant discoveries into the fundamental biological processes underlying circadian rhythmicity.
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering flexible working patterns.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A PhD (or to be obtained within 3 months) in a relevant area
- Expertise in expression and purification of recombinant protein by affinity and SEC.
- Expertise in structural biology approaches, such as CryoEM and X-ray crystallography
- Expertise in protein biophysics approaches, such as NMR, FP, BLI and ITC.
- Strong experience in standard molecular biology techniques e.g., PCR, molecular cloning.
- A deep interest in uncovering the fundamental mechanisms underlying circadian rhythmicity
- Good teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate within and beyond the research group.
- A track-record of high-quality research outputs (peer review publications, PDB/EMDB depositions).
