• Base salary will be in the range $83,698.92 - $111,431.10 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A)
• Based at our St Lucia Campus

About This Opportunity

Join an Australian Research Council–funded project and help shape the evidence base for one of Australia’s most important policy questions: how temporary migration influences pathways to long‑term settlement. Working with leading researchers across the Australian National University and the University of Western Australia, you’ll analyse large‑scale longitudinal and administrative datasets to understand integration trajectories – fertility behaviour, partnership formation, labour market outcomes and sense of belonging.

If you bring training in demography, economics, sociology or a related social science, plus strong quantitative capability, you’ll have the opportunity to apply advanced statistical and econometric methods, publish impactful research, and deliver insights that inform real‑world policy and practice.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Design and deliver high-quality quantitative research using large longitudinal, census, survey and administrative datasets, applying best-practice statistical/econometric methods and producing reproducible code and publications.
• Support supervision and development of Honours and HDR students, share expertise through teaching and mentoring, and help resolve issues promptly in line with University policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate citizenship aligned to UQ values by collaborating across institutions, contributing to unit priorities, building external partnerships, and translating research for end users (including knowledge transfer/commercialisation where relevant).

About You

• Completion (or near completion) of a PhD in a relevant discipline (Demography, Geography, Economics, Quantitative Sociology or related discipline).
• Demonstrated interest in migration research and policy, with a commitment to producing policy-relevant evidence.
• Strong analytical and programming capability in R and/or Stata, including writing efficient, reproducible code.
• Experience working with PLIDA or similar large-scale administrative and/or longitudinal datasets.
• Demonstrated ability to apply advanced statistical methods to analyse complex, multi-source data.
• An emerging research profile, evidenced by publications in reputable refereed journals (commensurate with opportunity).
• Experience presenting research to academic and/or applied audiences, including at conferences, seminars or stakeholder forums.
• Excellent communication and time-management skills, including the ability to explain complex findings clearly to academic and non-academic audiences (e.g., policy stakeholders).
