Postdoctoral Research Fellow
This new full-time post is available from 1 October 2025 on a fixed-term basis until 31 December 2026.
Based within the Global Systems Institute, the successful applicant will be part of a research team advancing the understanding of tipping points and the monitoring of resilience. We seek a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in the assessment of tipping points and the monitoring of resilience in the climate and ecosystems. The successful candidate will work on a project to develop a resilience sensing system to help understand, mitigate and govern the polycrisis. They will contribute to building an open-source resilience sensing system (or tool) which includes early warning methods for tipping points, testing early warning indicators of social-environmental breakdown, and develop indicators of cultural resilience and apply the tool to monitor cases of cultural resilience.
About you: The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicants will be nationally recognised authorities in tipping points and resilience research with respect to climate change and/or ecosystems and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicants will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leaders as required.
