1 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

A call is open for the award of a postdoctoral research fellowship within the framework of the project “RAICC - Responsible AI Call Center”, with nr. 25476 and operation code at the Funds Platform (Balcão dos Fundos) COMPETE2030-FEDER-03033600, co-financed by the European Union through the COMPETE 2030 Programme, of Portugal 2030, under the following conditions:

Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following two requirements may apply for this grant:

This postdoctoral research fellowship can only be awarded if all the following conditions are cumulatively met:

a) The PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field must have been obtained within the three years prior to the date of submission of the fellowship application;

b) The postdoctoral research must be carried out in a host institution different from the one where the research work leading to the PhD degree was developed;

c) The total duration of the fellowship contract, including any possible renewals, must not exceed a cumulative period of three years under this type of fellowship, whether consecutive or not.

If the academic degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the time the contract is signed.

Activity Outline:

The scholarship holder will work on the Development and validation of a synthetic data generation algorithm based on different approaches to improve understanding the behavior of forecasting algorithms in time series and tabular data.

The workplan will be as follows:

Literature review
Design of two approaches for the problem
Empirical evaluation of the proposed approaches
Writing of two research papers

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in force and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), or Fraunhofer AICOS, under the scientific supervision of Professor Carlos Manuel Milheiro de Oliveira Pinto Soares.

Grant duration: Initial duration of 12 months, with the predicted starting date in October 2026, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the end of the project.

If it is not possible to ensure the duration of 12 months estimated in the previous paragraph, this duration will be adjusted according to the end date of the project, and provided that the minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed, in accordance with paragraph 6 of article 7 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Stipend: The monthly fellowship amount ranges between € 1901.00, according to the Research Fellowship Regulations of the University of Porto, and € 2336.00, depending on the candidate’s profile and previous experience in the project’s area. Payment will be made by bank transfer.

Note: The present notice is published pending the signature of the Acceptance Term and the consortium contract of Project RAICC, therefore, for this reason and for reasons of interest of the institution, by means of a duly reasoned act, this selection process may be terminated until before notification of the selection minutes to the applicants, within the scope of the hearing of interested parties.

Selection procedure:

The selection of the fellow will be based on a curricular evaluation focusing on the candidate’s merit, according to the following assessment criteria:

Academic background of the candidate: PhD in Computer Engineering / Computer Science (5 points); PhD in related fields (2 points);
Participation in R&D projects in a field relevant to the research project (5 points); participation in R&D projects in related fields (2 points);
Relevant scientific outputs for the research project, including publications and supervision (1–5 points);
Motivation letter, which will be used to assess both the candidate’s motivation and English proficiency (1–5 points).

The ranking of the interviewed candidates will be based on the following criteria and weights:

Score of the CV evaluation - weight of 60%.
Interview (1-5 points) - weight of 40%.

Each candidate's CV will be evaluated on a scale from 1 to 20 points. If none of the candidates achieves a minimum final score of 16 points, the fellowship will not be awarded.
