We are seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Scientists to join the Nuffield Department of Medicine and work on cutting-edge research into inflammatory bowel disease. You will explore how immune cells behave within the intestinal environment and how genetic variation disrupts immune regulation, leading to chronic inflammation. By combining genomics, immunology and advanced single-cell technologies, the project aims to uncover the cellular networks that drive disease and translate these discoveries into more personalised and effective treatments.

You will be responsible for leading experimental and analytical work to dissect T and B cell responses within human intestinal tissue, using approaches such as advanced flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and antibody profiling. You will develop complex in vitro disease models, analyse multi-omic datasets, and communicate findings through publications, presentations and collaborative projects. Alongside your own research, you will contribute to project coordination, help develop new research ideas and funding proposals, and maintain high standards of data management and reproducibility.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or are close to completion) in immunology or a closely related discipline and have strong expertise in T and/or B cell immunology, ideally within mucosal or barrier tissues. You will be experienced in analysing complex computational datasets such as single cell transcriptomics, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. A clear track record of scientific productivity, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to communicate research effectively in writing and in person are essential, as is experience working with human samples in translational research.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online (via the 'Apply' button above) and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 28 months and is funded by The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 9 March 2026 will be considered. Please quote 184623on all correspondence.
