The Department of Experimental Psychology is a large, internationally recognised department with a high volume of academic activity and a fast-paced, research-driven culture. The Life and Mind building offers renewed commitment to work across disciplinary boundaries to further knowledge across the psychological and biological sciences and to solve major global challenges.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Human-AI interaction to join a research group focused on studying learning and decision-making in humans and machine learning systems led by Prof Christopher Summerfield.

The post-holder will have responsibility for carrying out rigorous and impactful research into human-AI interaction and alignment, with a particular focus on studying how humans and AI systems can interact safely and beneficially.

The post is full-time and funded for two years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant quantitative field such as computational social science, computer science, or cognitive science. They will have a demonstrable track record in studying humans and machine learning models, in the context of human social behaviour, learning, decision-making, or a related area. A proven track record of publishing work as lead author in computer science, social science or cognitive science, strong quantitative and programming skills along with excellent communication skills and a collaborative outlook, including a willingness to help other lab members on ongoing projects, and help foster good communication within the lab are also required.
