Job Description
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Syracuse University seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Researcher to assist in the management of the Noble Gas Geochemistry laboratory and perform noble gas geochemistry research. This is a fully funded, full-time, one-year position, subject to renewal. The candidate is expected to work in person.
The Noble Gas Geochemistry laboratory contains two state-of-the-art noble gas mass spectrometers (a Helix SFT and an Argus VI) and two extraction and purification lines (one for fluids and one for rocks). The lab can analyze the full suite of noble gases in gas, water, and rock samples. The candidate will conduct experimental noble gas work in shallow and deep groundwater, natural gas, and rock samples. Collaboration with faculty members in ongoing research projects is expected, with the possibility of independent research. The successful candidate may also participate in teaching, including lectures and laboratory teaching of undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications
- Required: Ph.D. in geochemistry or a related field before starting the position
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, evidenced by a solid publication record or significant research accomplishments
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Comfortable in diverse programming environments, proactive in developing new methodologies
- Experience with noble gas (or gas source) mass spectrometry, maintaining ultrahigh vacuum systems
- Programming experience in LabVIEW (or Python) and Qtegra
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Track record in academic publications
- Solid knowledge of noble gas analysis procedures is desired but not required
Responsibilities
- Run samples and troubleshoot noble gas mass spectrometers
- Build computational models of noble gas geochemistry results
- Communicate results clearly in oral and written formats (talks, poster sessions, journal articles)
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
- Purchase supplies, participate in literature discussions, contribute to writing proposals
- Other duties as assigned
