Requirements
Research Field: Chemistry
Education Level: PhD or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications
PhD in Chemistry, Photochemistry, Photocatalysis or closely related field. The candidate must have proven experience in photochemistry and mechanistic study of photocatalytic reactions. With a track record and background in organic and inorganic synthesis and spectroscopic techniques and Schlenk techniques and glovebox. Demonstrated experience and expertise in transient absorption spectroscopy, time resolved and steady state absorption and emission spectroscopy, Stern-Volmer analyses, charge dynamics, electron transfer kinetics for the study of homogeneous systems in solution. A profile with experience of photochemistry studies with soft materials of vesicular photocatalytic systems such as liposomes, polymersomes and other vesicles will be highly valuable. Ability to work independently in the laboratory and to troubleshoot mechanistic and synthetic challenges. Strong and fluent written and verbal communication skills in English (minimum B2 level). A track record of scientific productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications or submitted manuscripts). Experience on the synthesis of molecular complexes and their characterization by spectroscopic techniques (NMR, IR, UV-vis, ….). Ability to work in collaborative projects and mentor early PhD and master students. High level of motivation, curiosity, and resilience when facing challenging mechanistic investigations. Excellent organization and time-management skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Willingness to mentor junior researchers and contribute to a positive group environment. Prior experience in interdisciplinary projects is a plus. Also, experience in paper writing, scientific dissemination of results in meetings, conference and symposium and leadership skills will be valued.
Specific Requirements
Position in photochemistry is open within the ERC starting grant BIOPOLE project framework. The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in the mechanistic photochemistry studies on the functionalized photocatalytic polymeric vesicles (polymersomes) developed and studied in the group. The candidate should have a solid track record in photochemistry and photocatalysis, including demonstrated experience and expertise in transient absorption spectroscopy, time resolved and steady state absorption and emission spectroscopy, Stern-Volmer analyses, charge dynamics and electron transfer kinetics for the study of homogeneous systems in solution as well as heterogenized at soft polymeric bilayers and polymersomes. Studying photochemistry in the mechanisms of the photocatalytic reactions will help rationalize experimental trends in activity, selectivity and stability. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will actively contribute to the supervision and day-to-day mentoring of MSc and PhD students, helping them to get mechanistic insights of our systems, and will be involved in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and competitive research proposals, contributing to the writing, data analysis and presentation of results.
