Job Duties:
The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of investigating the role of B cells, macrophages, and adipocytes in murine models of aortic aneurysms, obesity, and diabetes. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of a project involving mouse breeding conditional knockout mice, murine surgery, isolation and digestion of murine tissues, phenotyping murine and human immune cells using 5-color Cytek Aurora flow cytometry, isolation and culture of primary immune cells, Western blotting, real-time RT-PCR, immunohistology, ELISA, and multiplex lumix cytokine assays. The scholar is expected to perform hypothesis-driven research, learn new techniques, submit postdoctoral/career development grant applications, and assist the PI in submitting extramural grant applications.
Duties include: hypothesis development, literature review, collection of pilot data, report writing, and supervising of undergraduate research students and graduate research students, overseeing data collection procedures, supervising experimental procedures, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, analysis of research hypothesis using descriptive and multivariate statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research, including biosafety, responsible conduct of research, and human subjects training.
Approximately 95% of the postdoctoral scholars time will be devoted to research.
Approximately 5% of the postdoctoral scholars time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activities of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory.
Minimum Education/Experience:
The candidate should hold a PhD in immunology or a closely related field. Proficiency in standard molecular biology and mouse handling techniques is required. Proficiency in hypothesis-driven experimental design, data analysis, and record keeping is required. Interested candidates must be capable of working independently and have demonstrated excellence in both written and oral communication skills. English proficiency is required.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Preferred candidates will have a strong publication record, including first authored publications in high-quality peer-reviewed cardiovascular journals. Preferred candidates will have consistently presented their research at national scientific meetings. Candidates with experience in studying autoimmunity, obesity, insulin resistance, aortic aneurysms, intracellular signaling, mouse surgery, primary cell isolation and culture, and advanced flow cytometry techniques are preferred.
