Postdoctoral Scholar in Transportation Engineering
The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) is seeking to hire a postdoctoral scholar in transportation engineering. This is an interdisciplinary position with an emphasis on (1) emerging transportation technologies and intelligent transportation systems, (2) data analytics with applications to problems in transportation systems, and (3) transportation equity and sustainability.
The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to be involved in research efforts in at least one of the following: transportation data analytics, highway safety, transportation equity and sustainability, traffic simulation, multimodal transportation systems, network modeling, etc. Duties will include conducting original research, disseminating research findings, supervising undergraduate research students, managing projects, teaching elective engineering courses, and participating in collaborative research or proposal efforts. The postdoctoral scholar will serve as one of the key researchers in the newly funded multi-year grant, i.e., the Rural Equitable and Accessible Transportation (REAT) Center. The scholar will work with REAT consortium universities on several collaborative research projects.
This is a full-time position. Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Postdoctoral scholar appointments are initially for 12 months, with opportunities to renew depending on funding availability and the scholar’s performance.
The base salary range for this position will be $5,750/month, commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include travel to national or international conferences, computing equipment, and fees associated with manuscript publications, if applicable. Location: University of Washington Tacoma. This position will have the option for a hybrid schedule.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in transportation engineering or a closely related field such as industrial engineering, systems engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Strong background in machine learning or data analytics and hands-on experience handling big data. At least one year of research experience in transportation engineering. Proficient in programming languages, including Python, R, Julia, etc. Proficient in database management systems, i.e., MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server. Proficient in traffic simulation and spatial analysis. Experience writing and publishing manuscript(s) that report original research. Experience preparing research proposals. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a team.
