Postoc
at the Radiological Metrology and Biomedical Physics Division (H2)
(ref. H2_538)
Localization: Otwock-Świerk
Description of tasks
- Conducting research and development activities in the field of neutron, gamma-ray, and heavy charged particle spectrometry in the context of radiation protection, using active and passive spectrometric methods.
- Performing numerical modelling of radiation transport and interactions using Monte Carlo codes (MCNP, PHITS).
- Designing and performing numerical calculations of radiation shielding using Monte Carlo codes.
- Designing and performing Monte Carlo calculations of infrastructure components for irradiation of biological samples.
- Planning and conducting experiments in radiation beams with high particle flux density / high dose rates, including at international research facilities.
- Conducting work related to gamma and neutron radiation metrology in reference ionizing radiation fields and at the MARIA research reactor.
- Performing analytical work related to the results of measurements and numerical simulations; preparing reports, scientific publications, and conference presentations.
- Preparing research grant applications.
- Publishing research results in international scientific journals.
Requirements for the candidate
- PhD degree in physical sciences.
- Documented scientific activity in the fields of dosimetry and radiation protection, neutron spectrometry, and detection of heavy charged particles (reports, publications, conference presentations).
- Documented scientific activity in the field of ionizing radiation transport calculations.
- Documented participation in scientific research projects.
- Ability to plan and conduct experiments using multi-detector systems with digital data acquisition.
- Experience working with cell cultures in a radiobiology laboratory, including sample irradiation and studies of radiation effects.
- Ability to use Monte Carlo modelling codes, e.g. MCNP, PHITS.
- Willingness to participate in domestic and international measurement campaigns, training courses, and conferences.
- No contraindications to working in exposure to ionizing radiation (Category B).
- Ability to work independently as well as within an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English confirmed by a certificate (minimum B2 level).
- Ability to read and prepare technical documentation in Polish.
Additional assets
- Experience in leading scientific research projects.
- Experience working in exposure to ionizing radiation.
- Experience in designing experiments related to ionizing radiation detection.
- Knowledge of radiation protection principles and standards, including ICRP Publication 103 and ICRP Publication 116.
- Programming skills in Python, C++, or other programming languages.
- Scientific activity in the field of BNCT and applications of neutrons in medicine
