"Pre-Collegiate Advisor - COSI Grant"

The Pre-Collegiate Advisor will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing support services under the guidelines, policies, and mission of COSI and the Colorado Department of Higher Education in collaboration with Adams State University. The Pre-Collegiate Advisor will be responsible for increasing persistence and assisting students to stay on track to graduate. The Pre-Collegiate Advisor will help develop and facilitate support programming for all seniors at the following San Luis Valley high schools: Alamosa, Monte Vista, San Luis (Centennial High School), Mosca (Sangre de Cristo High School), and Saguache (Mountain Valley School).

• Collaborate and coordinate closely with the partner institution in such a way as to maximize value added and avoid duplication
• Attend a Family and Community Engagement (Family Night) at each high school
• Take part in campus Workshops: FAFSA and College Applications
• Assist students as they navigate the annual Career Fair at Adams State University
• Network and develop partnerships with existing programs that will provide students with resources, academic support and opportunities to boost co-curricular participation
• Intensive program and institutional data tracking and reporting of student progress
• Assist students in becoming independent learners by providing them with the knowledge and resources on how to navigate through a postsecondary system, including, but not limited to: financial aid, SAP appeals, degree audits and university reporting and compliance
• Conduct outreach and intense one-on-one and small group advising sessions with students
• Monitor and track academic progress weekly
• Serve as a mentor, resource liaison, and advocate for students
• Promote essential skills and techniques related to time management, study strategies, and use of all resources
• Provide career development and advising activities to increase awareness
• Collaborate with on campus/school partner contacts
• Actively participate in weekly meetings with the COSI grants director
• Meet with COSI state contact once per semester or as needed
