Pre-Health Professions Advisor (Academic Advisor)
POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College is soliciting applications for an Pre-Health Professions Advisor (Academic Advisor). Reporting to the Director of Pre-Health Professions Advising, the Pre-Health Advisor supports a comprehensive program serving undergraduates, post-baccalaureates, and alumni preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, physical and occupational therapy, nursing, optometry, veterinary medicine, public health, and related fields. The Advisor collaborates with faculty, academic departments, and student-support units across the College to advance student preparation and applicant success, including support for the College’s BA-MD Program.
In addition to the CUNY title overview, the duties of the Academic Advisor include but are not limited to:
- Provide holistic advising on course planning, timelines, and competitiveness for all pre-health tracks.
- Coach students on experiential readiness (clinical exposure, research, service, leadership) and gap-year planning.
- Deliver application support: personal statement/essays, school list strategy, and mock interviews (traditional/MMI).
- Conduct application readiness reviews for AMCAS, AACOMAS, AADSAS, CASPA, and other centralized services.
- Coordinate the College’s committee letter/letter packet process, including faculty evaluator outreach and quality assurance.
- Plan and facilitate workshops, bootcamps, and information sessions; partner with units such as the Magner Career Center, Honors programs, and research initiatives to develop opportunities and pipelines.
- Maintain accurate advising records; track applicant outcomes and prepare assessment reports.
- Contribute content for the Pre-Health website, learning platforms, newsletters, and email announcements; ensure accuracy and accessibility.
- Participate in professional development and stay current on national admissions trends.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of related professional experience (advising, student success, counseling, admissions, or related).

- Assists students with clarifying values and goals; counsels students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
- Offers academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process
- Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services
- Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits
- Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses
- May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups
- Performs related duties as assigned.
