Salary Range: Up to $32.50/hour.

Job Type: Part-Time

Job Summary

PREP Instructors are responsible for working with a Program Assistant Mentor (PA) to deliver in-person instruction of one integrated STEM course. Instructors are also expected to attend necessary professional development, maintain grading, and provide students with feedback based on formative and summative assessments. The PREP program will take place during June and July 2026. Candidates must be available for the duration of the program; specific dates may vary.

This is a temporary position dependent on availability of funds and/or departmental need.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Be available to work a full seven-hour workday, Monday through Thursday.
  2. Attend all required professional development days prior to program start date.
  3. Report to class and other assigned duties on time.
  4. Teach one integrated STEM course. Instruction will be delivered in person Monday-Thursday at your assigned campus. Instructional materials and evaluation tools will be provided for each course.
  5. Be available at least one hour per day for one-on-one tutoring.
  6. Organize and/or develop special project days for students in conjunction with your program assistant (PA), if applicable.
  7. Attend all staff meetings.
  8. Provide both the students and their PA with clear and concise grading procedures and a description of the value of program components.
  9. Administer all quizzes, exams, and student surveys provided by instructional team.
  10. Grade all homework, quizzes, exams, midterms, and final.
  11. Give proper notice (at least 1 week in advance) to your PA when you need supplies in preparation for your class.
  12. Compile grades and submit final grades to the PREP Site Coordinator as required.
  13. Consult with the appropriate PA on the status of your students on a weekly basis.
  14. Inform PA of your standards and expectations.
  15. Follow the same rules and guidelines set for the students and PA as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  16. Serve as a positive role model and facilitate the participants' personal growth and academic motivation/ achievement.
  17. Be receptive to other responsibilities, as requested by PREP Lead Instructor and assist with general program needs, as requested.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Valid Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience in teaching K-12 students.
  • Experience implementing and delivering instructional materials and evaluation tools.
  • Experience teaching STEM related courses.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Blackboard or a similar LMS.
  • Proficiency in inquiry-based learning pedagogy.

Preferred

  • Experience as a sponsor of STEM competition team or club.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel to assigned campus Monday-Thursday to deliver in-person instruction.
  • Classroom environment.
  • Ability to actively monitor students while working on activities and provide instant feedback or probing questions.
  • Works with sensitive information and maintains confidentiality.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to set the classroom and materials for delivery of instruction based on daily activities.
  • Distribute activity materials to student groups.
  • Exerts up to 5 lbs. of force occasional.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
